1. a cave dweller; cave man.
2. Figurative. a person thought to resemble a cave dweller, as: a) one who lives in seclusion; hermit. b) one of a degraded type or brutish nature, especially a dweller in a hovel or slum. c) one who is extremely conservative in politics; a reactionary.
3. an anthropoid ape, such as a gorilla or chimpanzee.
